Group Visits

Group visits to Chawton House Library are by appointment only and can be booked for Tuesday to Friday during office hours. Visits generally take the form of an introduction about the history of the house and estate which is followed by a guided tour of the house. This includes an opportunity to see one of the library reading rooms to find out more about the library collection which focuses on women?s writing in English from 1600 to 1830 and includes, in many cases, rare editions. After the house tour, visitors are also welcome to explore the gardens on their own (weather permitting).
Since Chawton House Library is a working library and study centre, the number of group tours which can be accommodated is limited, so booking well in advance is recommended. The whole visit lasts approximately two hours.

Charges

Charges are 12.50 per person; the minimum charge per group is 125.00. The maximum number for a group is 40 people. Refreshments (tea, coffee and cakes) are available for an additional 2.50 per person.
