VISIT US, WEDDINGS AND VENUE HIRE
Chawton House Library is an approved premises for Marriage and Civil partnership ceremonies.
Chawton House was once owned by Jane Austen’s brother, Edward, who four years after the death of his father, was able to offer a cottage in the village of Chawton to his mother and sisters, Cassandra and Jane.
The house is situated in this beautiful English country village, with spectacular parkland grazed by sheep, cattle and majestic shire horses. The tranquil and picturesque setting and its unique historical and literary links, make Chawton House the perfect venue for your special day.
Only five marquee weddings a year are held at Chawton House which ensures that it is a truly exclusive location.

We also offer three exquisite settings for the smaller intimate wedding.
The Oak Room can seat up to 30 people.
The Dining Room seats 65 people for a larger ceremony.
The Great Hall can seat 75 people for a wedding reception, or 100 people for a drinks reception
