Women's Writing in Britain 1660-1830.
This conference has been jointly organized by the
University of Southampton English Department and Chawton
House Library to mark the opening of the Library in Summer
2003. It will explore the remarkable phenomenon of female
authorship in Britain across the 'long eighteenth century',
discussing new directions for research in the field, and
examining the legacy and afterlife of work by 18th-century
women writers, including not only its analysis in
biography, literary criticism, and social history but its
remembrance and reinvention through film and television
adaptation.
